The Blue River Improvement District (BRID), established in 1956, is the local government body responsible for collecting taxes and providing street lighting and fire protection within the boundaries of Blue River, BC.

Blue River is a rural town with approximately 200 residents, situated along Highway 5, halfway between Kamloops, BC and Edmonton, AB, within the Secwepemcúľecw Territory.
​
The BRID is governed by a Chairperson and four elected Directors, who are also land owners from the area. They are elected for their position at each year's Annual General Meeting and serve the area without remuneration. The BRID also employs one part-time employee, the Administration Officer to look after day-to-day operations.
